Brief Introduction: Yawgeng Chau received his PhD from University of Maryland-College Park, U.S.A. He currently serves as the Dean of College of Electrical and Communication Engineering, Yuan Ze University, Taiwan. His current research interests are in the areas of Wireless Communications, IoT, and Machine Learning. He has been the principal investigator of many projects sponsored by companies. He also serves as a board member of Gemtek Co. Ltd.
Title: Recommender Systems based on Machine Learning
Abstarct: Recommender system is very important for various businesses, such as e-commerce, social networks, digital banking, APP stores, etc., and will have a direct impact on relevant revenue. Traditional recommender systems are based on consumer profile s related models, or a mixture of content s and models. To obtain more accurate predictions and solve some existing problems, the advanced recommender system may employ machine learning (ML) with big data. In this talk, the ML based recommender system and its advantages will be introduced, where different ML schemes will be considered and compared Moreover, the performance of different ML schemes for recommender systems is analyzed In addition, the application of ML based recommender system s will be addressed using practical example s for corresponding illustrations.
Assoc Prof. Ahmad Athif Bin Mohd Faudzi

Brief Introduction: Dr. Ahmad Athif Mohd Faudzi was born in 1982. He received the B.Eng. and the M.Eng. degrees from UTM, Malaysia and the Dr.Eng. in System Integration from Okayama University, Japan in 2004, 2006, and 2010 respectively. He is now attached in Dept. of Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UTM as a Associate Professor. His research ares are actuators (soft mechanism, pneumatic, hydraulic), underwater robots, field robotics, system integration, predictive contol system, bio-inspired robotics, rehabilitation robotics. Moreover, he received many research awards, Best Paper Finalist Award of International Symposium on Robotics and Intelligent Sensors (IRIS) in 2010, Best Paper Award – IEEE International Symposium on Robotics and Manufacturing Automation (ROMA 2014).
Title: Bio-inspired Robots and Its Application
Abstarct: Biological creatures such as human, animal and plants are God creation with unique motion and function. We can learn and mimick the biological creature’s mechanism to produce new robots and use it for a certain application. In this talk, I will be sharing some of the work conducted by Centre for AI and Robotics, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (CAIRO UTM) under Actuator and Automation Lab (A2Lab) such as Giacometti Robot, Human-like Robotic Hand, Soft Finger Exoskeleton, Surgical & Interventional Device Research and Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Pleco inspired by biological creatures. Some of the projects present the fundamental research outcome and some act as commercial product. Audience could learn emerging technologies used in actuator design, fabrication technique and control algorithm used.
